The Werks

logo logoIntroduction

Werkshop Creative, a Brighton-based social enterprise, supports creative business by providing interesting social spaces where people can work, play, learn and create together.

They approached BHESCo to make their offices more eco-friendly starting with their offices on Church Road in Hove. The most carbon emissions savings could be achieved by replacing their outdated lighting system.  To reduce their heating consumption, we recommended installing heating controls and a new energy efficient boiler.

The Approach

Two hundred and eighty fluorescent tubes have been replaced with 70 LED lighting panels on four floors of the Werks building, saving an estimated 8,500 kWh of electricity, or 4.3 tonnes of CO2 per year. As well as saving energy, the lighting system has greatly improved the working environment for the various enterprises that occupy the building, all requiring their own lighting levels.  The antiquated wiring was also replaced, delivering benefit to the landlord as well as the tenants.

We expect the lights to pay for themselves within 3 years from installation. In addition to the new lighting system, a new energy efficient heating system has been installed, as well as electronic heating controls, bringing the total energy savings up to 11,000kWh a year.
