BHESCo CASE STUDY:
The Station stores
‘The Station’ (formely Hove Park Stores) is a small to medium sized business based in Hove.
As part of our work with the Hove Station Neighbourhood Forum, BHESCo offered its advice for lowering The Station’s energy bills and reducing their carbon emissions.
BHESCo visited the store to assess the energy efficiency of the premises and conducted a review of their energy bills. We installed an energy monitor enabling us to review their energy consumption patterns and to understand where and how energy was being consumed by the store.
BHESCo produced a detailed report analysing the areas of consumption, suggesting a number of measures that The Station stores could take to reduce their energy consumption. From the measures we recommended, we concluded that taking action, with BHESCo would save more than £2,060 per year on their energy bills. The lease period was set at 5 years to ensure that the repayments are low enough each year to provide a real saving.
These suggestions included upgrading to modern, energy-efficient refrigerators, replacing existing halogen lights with energy-efficient LED lightbulbs, and switching their energy tariff or supplier. As part of our ongoing service, BHESCo would review the company’s energy tariff on an annual basis to make sure that they are always getting the best deal available.
Tim Beecher, energy advice team leader, said:
“This is a good example of how monitoring individual appliances allows us to recommend changes to make huge savings on energy bills and overheads. We can pinpoint inefficient equipment and make simple changes to reduce energy consumption and achieve a real boost to the bottom line and lower carbon emissions in the process.”
