BHESCo are thrilled to announce that we’ll be partnering with Brighton and Hove City Council to offer free energy improvement surveys for 150 local homes.

The ‘Sustainable Homes in an Inclusive Neighbourhood‘ project (SHINE) aims to tackle draughts and damp as well as reducing energy bills for residents during the cold winter months.

Anyone is welcome to request a free survey, although the programme is directed towards those on a low-income or where a family member is vulnerable to cold conditions (e.g. children under 5, elderly, lives with a disability).

What is included with a free home energy survey?

Since 2016, BHESCo have completed more than 650 energy surveys for residents of Brighton and Hove, helping people to save over £50,000 on energy bills collectively.

The survey itself takes no more than one hour and will include the installation of free energy saving measures which will deliver a significant improvement to the warmth and comfort of the home while making it more affordable to heat during winter.

Typical energy saving measures that we can install are:

  • LED lights
  • Window & door draught excluders
  • Radiator reflector panels
  • Chimney balloons
  • Secondary glazing
  • Home energy monitor

The survey includes a review of the property’s energy bills and helping customers to switch to a cheaper tariff.

We will also advise on any potential financial support available such as the £140 Warm Home Discount, as well as demonstrating how to optimise boiler and heating controls.

Get cheaper energy bills by doing an energy comparison and switching to a cheaper energy supplier
Reviewing your energy tariff and finding a cheaper deal is one of the quickest and easiest ways for households to achieve big savings on their energy bills

What measures are in place to ensure social distancing?

We have put significant time into developing processes that ensure we are protecting the health of both customers and workers, to give confidence to all that we are able to continue our good work towards a low carbon future.

In light of the Coronavirus, we have reviewed every aspect of our Health and Safety system and work processes. Our Energy Saving Team will conduct all surveys wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), will make use of hand sanitiser, and wherever possible, will complete an energy survey when a property is unoccupied.

We ask that doors to rooms and loft hatches are left open so as to minimise contact with household surfaces, and where a surveyor does make contact with any surfaces, they will clean these with antiseptic wipes before leaving the property.

Next steps

If you are interested in a free home energy survey please complete the form provided using the button below. We will then be in touch to arrange a date for the survey.

Properties eligible for SHINE must be within the following postcode areas: BN1 / BN2 / BN3 / BN41

We look forward to hearing from you and helping you take control of your fuel bills.

Great initiative; Electrical system health and efficiency, Equipment monitoring, these are crucial things to monitor when one wants to monitor power. I use home energy monitor named OHM Assistant. This helps me with these exact two things. Many people ignore checking their appliance health and efficiency, leading to increased power bills. This article covers mostly everything one should consider, if they want to save power or wants to monitor power.
