Located in the centre of Hove, WestWerks is a flexible office space, where you can work in an affordable office or hire out rooms for community projects.
In co-operation with AJ Taylor Electrical, BHESCo designed and installed a 12kW rooftop solar PV system that will deliver 10% of the property’s annual electrical needs.
In addition, we arranged for a new energy saving lighting system to be installed that will reduce electrical consumption by 50%.
The project was completed in Spring 2016 and paid for using BHESCo’s ‘Pay As You Save’ finance model.

For this community energy project, BHESCo partnered with AJTaylor, a local electrical contractors that provided a high-quality system with the largest long-term output and are based in Brighton.
Alongside the Solar PV a new lighting system was also installed, replacing lighting units within the building with low-energy, efficient LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).
The new lights and Solar Panels will be leased from BHESCo to West Werks for a period of 10 years, after which time the new installations will belong to them who will benefit from 100% of the financial savings.
A detailed examinaton of the West Werk’s energy bills for 2015 suggested that they will reduce their electricity consumption by an impressive 47% by switching to LED lighting and Solar PV.
This will reduce their carbon emissions by 26.8 tonnes over the lifetime of the technologies, which is a significant amount!
That’s the equivalent of providing a home with electricity for 4.7 years!
