Site description
Fabrica Gallery is located in the historic Holy Trinity Church (est 1817), a Grade II listed building situated within the ‘Old Town’ conservation area of Brighton. Since 1996, the building has operated as an arts and events space. Heating had been provided by two gas boilers which required careful manual control before/ after events.
Project development
BHESCo’s relationship with Fabrica dates back to 2015 when we oversaw the installation of a cutting-edge LED lighting system with real-time remote controls.
A key priority for the building manager was to upgrade the outdated heating system and to address heat loss from several large stained-glass windows.
BHESCo’s Project Team conducted multiple surveys of the property, including heat load calculations and an analysis of renewable energy feasibility.
As the lead project manager, BHESCo oversaw the design of an integrated solar PV, battery storage, and a heat pump system.
Additionally, we commissioned the design of several bespoke-cut secondary-glazing panels to improve the heat retention of the large stained-glass windows. In accordance with the priorities of the customer, it was important that the panels could be secured without altering the historic aesthetic of the property.
Project finance
BHESCo worked closely with the management team at Fabrica Gallery to secure an £85,000 capital grant from Veolia, which covered the costs for all energy upgrades.
