Grants and finance for commercial
clean energy improvements
What grant funding is available to help businesses make energy improvements?
There are a variety of grant funding options available to support your organisation with its decarbonisation goals.
In the first instance, funding can be secured to finance a detailed energy survey of the property, which will identify areas of heat loss and energy waste and recommend a cost-effective improvement plan.
Rampion Fund
The Rampion Fund provides grants for organisations working for the benefit of people of Sussex.
BHESCo have worked with a number of organisations who have been able to access the Rampion Fund to secure funding for an initial energy survey, and we would recommend this as a good first step. If you are thinking of applying for Rampion funding to make improvements to your premises then please speak with BHESCo before you submit an application.
The Rampion Community Benefit Fund is administered by the Sussex Community Foundation and is available for organisations and businesses based in East Sussex, West Sussex, and Brighton & Hove.
Groundwork VCSE Funding
If you are a voluntary, community or social enterprise organisation, then you can access funding for an initial energy assessment though the VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme (VCSE). This involves an audit of your premises to identify areas of remediation and the most cost-effective solutions.
Once a survey has been completed your organisation may be eligible for a capital grant to pay for the installation of recommended measures.
Industrial Energy Transformation Fund
The IETF funding will support industrial sites in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to cut their energy bills and decarbonise their industrial processes through investing in energy efficiency and deep decarbonisation technologies.
A new funding round is available from June 2024. The competition is open to a range of industrial sites, from manufacturing, mining, quarrying, material recycling and data centres, both within and outside the industrial clusters.
BHESCo's 'Pay As You Save' financing
If your organisation is not eligible for grant funding, or if grant funding cannot cover the full cost of your desired energy saving/ energy generating technologies, then you may wish to consider BHESCo’s ‘Pay As You Save’ finance initiative.
Our network of community investors will fund the installation of energy saving/ energy generating measures on your behalf, meaning you pay nothing upfront.
This initial expense is then paid back over an agreed number of years using a portion of the savings achieved from your monthly energy bills.
In this way, customers see savings immediately and everyone is able to take part in the journey towards a low-carbon future, free from the restriction of burdensome upfront costs.
