Brighton & Hove Energy Services Cooperative is delighted to be nominated for the British Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2024

In July of this year, Brighton & Hove Energy Services Cooperative (BHESCo) was named Planet Saver business of the year at the 2024 Sussex Chamber of Commerce Awards. They have now been shortlisted for the nationwide British Chamber of Commerce – Green Innovation award.

The Chamber Business Awards is one of the showpiece events in the business calendar, recognising and promoting the best of British business through a series of regional heats, culminating in a campaign to showcase the winning businesses on an international stage.

BHESCo was founded in 2012 by CEO Kayla Ente. Its mission is to help homeowners and businesses transition to energy efficient buildings powered by local renewable energy.

One of the unusual ways that BHESCo supports customers is by providing the upfront finance for clean energy projects. This comes from BHESCo’s members who want to invest their money in solutions to the climate crisis.

Using this approach, BHESCo has completed 63 community-financed energy projects since 2015, which are estimated to collectively save customers £3.7 million on energy costs, in addition to reducing carbon emissions by thousands of tonnes.

In parallel, BHESCo is dedicated to tackling fuel poverty in Brighton and Hove by visiting people in their homes to install free energy saving measures and helping them access grants for insulation.

On hearing of their nomination for the Green Innovation Award, Kayla Ente MBE, founder and CEO of BHESCo, said:

Being shortlisted for such a prestigious means so much to the whole BHESCo team. We work so hard to secure the best outcome for the residents and businesses of Sussex, and receiving recognition like this provides a tremendous boost. We believe wholeheartedly in our business and look forward to taking it mainstream.”

The Chamber Business Awards national winners will be announced in October, and the ‘Winner of Winners’ will be announced at the London Stock Exchange on Wednesday 20 November.
