Marina Dance Studios describes itself as ‘the Number One dance and fitness studio in the South’.
It is home to Streetfunk, a highly successful Hip Hop dance company, and holds daily dance classes covering ballet, musical theatre, breakdancing and swing.
The owners of the dance studio approached BHESCo to help them reduce the money spent on monthly energy bills by designing a new energy efficient lighting system.
Dance classes take place seven days a week meaning the lighting is in near constant use.
Project Delivery
For this community energy project, BHESCo partnered with Lightfoot LED, a local energy-saving lighting specialist based in Brighton.
An entirely new lighting configuration was designed, replacing all the lighting units in the studio with low-energy, efficient LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).
A total of 57 lamps were installed at a cost of £6,562. The new lights will be leased from BHESCo to Marina Dance Studios for a period of 5 years, after which time the lights will belong to the studio who will benefit from 100% of the financial savings.

A detailed examinaton of the dance studio’s energy bills for 2018 suggested that they will reduce their electricity consumption by an impressive 70%by switching to LED lighting.
This will reduce their carbon emissions by 47 tonnes over the lifetime of the lamps, which is a significant amount for a relatively simple change.
That’s the equivalent of taking 10 cars off the road for one whole year.
Reviewing and upgrading lighting is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways for any home business to make big reductions to monthly overheads.
