We are delighted to announce that the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) has invested £50,000 into Brighton & Hove Energy Services Co-operative’s (BHESCo) 2026 Community Energy Share Offer.

Community-owned renewable energy on the rise

This significant investment represents a major vote of confidence in BHESCo’s mission to deliver practical, community-owned renewable energy projects that benefit local people while helping to protect our environment.

The South Downs National Park Authority is the organisation responsible for conserving and enhancing the landscape, wildlife, cultural heritage and communities of the South Downs National Park. Covering more than 1,600 square kilometres across Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex, the National Park is one of the UK’s most treasured natural environments.

The Authority’s investment reflects the growing recognition that community energy has an important role to play in tackling climate change, strengthening local resilience and supporting the transition away from fossil fuels.

Still time to invest in share offer

So far BHESCo’s share offer has raised £150,000 from local residents and supporters further afield. And there’s still time to invest before the closing date on 31 July 2026.

The funds raised are being used to deliver multiple innovative renewable energy projects in Sussex including:

Together, these projects will generate clean, local electricity, reduce carbon emissions and help households and organisations protect themselves against future energy price volatility.

"We're grateful for this support from the South Downs National Park Authority. It demonstrates the trust that respected local institutions place in community energy and the impact it can deliver. The SDNPA shares our commitment to protecting the natural environment, and we're proud to be working towards many of the same goals. Their support sends a strong signal that community-owned renewable energy is a practical and effective way to build a cleaner, fairer and more resilient energy system."

Founder and CEO of BHESCo

The investment also highlights the growing momentum behind BHESCo’s share offer. Every pound invested helps to create new renewable energy generation, reduce carbon emissions and keep more of the benefits of the energy transition within local communities.

With £200,000 left to raise before the offer closes, we are encouraging residents, businesses and organisations who want to support community-led climate action to consider investing.

Community energy is about more than generating clean power. It’s about giving local people a stake in the energy transition and creating projects that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits for Sussex.

As the 31 July deadline approaches, the support of investors large and small will help ensure that these projects become a reality.
